China’s Ruoning Yin has delighted the home crowd with a one-shot victory at the Buick LPGA Shanghai, securing the seventh LPGA Tour title of her career.
Yin closed with a four-under 68 at Sheshan Golf Club to finish at 11-under 277, one stroke clear of South Korea’s Hye-Jin Choi.
The victory marked Yin’s second triumph at her home event after she first lifted the trophy in 2024.
It also continued an impressive run of form for the Chinese star, who won her previous LPGA start at the FM Championship.
Late Birdies Decide Shanghai Thriller
Yin began the final round two shots behind Choi after moving into contention with a bogey-free 67 on Saturday.
The pair were level after 10 holes and remained locked together deep into the back nine.
Yin finally broke the deadlock with a four-foot birdie putt at the 16th before adding another birdie at the 17th to create the decisive advantage.
Choi refused to go quietly, making birdie at the par-five 18th, but Yin safely completed the closing hole to seal victory.
The Korean signed for a 71 and finished alone in second at 10-under 278.
Another Near Miss For Choi
It was a frustrating conclusion for Choi, who had led after each of the opening three rounds while chasing her first LPGA Tour victory.
She began the tournament with a 64 and carried a one-shot advantage into Sunday, but could not hold off Yin’s late charge.
South Korea’s Amy Yang finished third at eight-under 280, three shots behind Yin, after a final-round 72.
For Yin, the victory adds another trophy to a career already highlighted by her 2023 Women’s PGA Championship major title.
Winning again in Shanghai made the occasion even sweeter, with the home favourite delivering when the pressure was highest.
Asian Swing Heads To South Korea
The LPGA Tour now moves to South Korea for the BMW Ladies Championship from October 22-25 at Pine Beach Golf Links in Haenam-gun.
South Korea’s Sei Young Kim returns as defending champion after winning the 2025 event by four shots.
But Shanghai belonged to Yin, whose two late birdies turned a tight final-round battle into LPGA Tour victory number seven.
